“You Were a Rosy Storm”

The storm blew in from Chicago

I watched those sad clouds creeping

from black to pink

but they made no rain.

The lights flickered a few times,

and it frightened me a few times

even with the comfort of the flashlight

on the dresser.

You always wait for the best days

to be on my mind,

don’t you?

I kept my flashlight on,

but i’m afraid

all i’ve done

is wear down my batteries.
