Reach

I’m trying
to break the habit
of locking my dreams
inside the house
while I look
up the street
at a road that bends
beyond what I can see.
A plant now sits
in the shade
in the corner of my room.
It’s limp and dying
and folds beneath
the map of the world
hung too high
for it to reach.
One day
if it grows tall
enough,
it will see
at least
Antarctica
and then maybe
reach
for the
equator
where it’s
warm
and thriving
with a plentiful rainfall
each
day
like a blessing
from God himself.
